This Free New Moms Group is hosted at the North End Library every Thursday morning. It is a safe, supportive and welcoming place to come and meet other new mothers in the neighborhood. They talk about everything from diapers, to nursing, to sleep deprivation and more. It is a wonderful place to meet other mothers with new babies. It is a drop-in group so no need to RSVP just attend when you can and no one is every "late" so arrive anytime between 10:00 am and 11:30am (we know some days it takes longer to get out of the house). Mothers bring their babies (infants to 24 months) to the group. This is a wonderful place to meet other mothers going through this exciting and challenging new chapter of life. You are not alone!
Becoming a Mother is a wonderful, exciting and sometimes overwhelming transition and being part of a New Moms Group can make the shift much easier. Meghan Warner Denenberg, CD (DONA) has been a Birth Doula for over 20 years and knows the importance of new mothers connecting with other new mothers. In the Spring of 2012 a young woman in her condo building was pregnant and Meghan asked her if she knew any other moms. The eight month pregnant mom said "No, I don't know any women with babies in the neighborhood." Meghan immediately began asking people if anyone knew any other new mothers in the neighborhood. "I wanted to help her find some friends, little did I know how many other new moms were also looking to connect with other new mothers as well."
From then on the word spread and the New Moms Group has been going strong ever since. Now the group meets every Thursday morning at the North End Library. Over the years we have had mothers who live in the North End, Waterfront, West End, Beacon Hill, Seaport and Charlestown neighborhoods. Plus we have had mothers who were originally from New York, Ireland, Brazil, Italy and Istanbul. Meghan continues to hunt down new mothers in the neighborhood and always keeps her eyes out for baby strollers. She even has her own mother, Margaret, who also lives in the North End and her Husband, Neil, recruit for her.
